Ref. INTERNATIONA WORKSHOP
"READING TO BUILD PEACE"
Dear friends,
I
would like, first of all, to thank you, very sincerely,
for your participation to our Meeting and Workshop in Florence
on the theme "reading to build peace", Your contribution
to the debate, as well as your suggestions during the four
days of our seminar have been really instrumental for the
fruitful results of our workshop and for the development
of our current project, Reading to Build Peace
I
have the pleasure to send you the list of participants;
it is not yet a definitive list, so I am asking everybody
to be so kind to send it back to us with any eventual corrections
As you will note, the list is in French and some references
in the list are still in Italian, they will be also in English,
of course. So you may correct also in English, if you prefer.
I am also enclosing a presse communicate which we had prepared
at the end of our Meeting, in French and in English.
I
will also send the final report: as soon as Rachid Ben Slama
will send me back his definite text in French, we will take
care of the translation into English and send it to all
the participants for the final approval.
I
would like to propose to you a first opportunity of "
collaboration at distance", connected with the International
Day of Books, the 23 of April, proclaimed by UNESCO
My
proposal is that all the Participants in the Meeting of
Florence and in the program "Reading to build peace"
would organise a special event or conference (as they prefer)
in their countries, the 23th of April, in order to present
one or more books or readings which you think could contribute
to "build peace", in the line proposed by our
program.
What
I think is that you could present both books proposed by
some Expert, according to the "List of proposed books"
on which all the participants agreed, and also one or more
books proposed by young people participating to the program
in your country.
This event could also offer an opportunity to present the
program to the interested people in the different places.
As
far as the UNESCO Center of Florence is concerned, I am
pleased to let you know our decision: we will invite the
23th, again in the National Library, one or two Experts
to speak about one or more books to be enclosed in the "proposal
list of books to build peace"; in the same meeting,
we will also invite some young students to speak present
their questions, and their own proposals
In
the same occasion, the 24th, the day after, we have decided
to present an exposition of photos "Reading all over
the word " ( very interesting and beautiful photos
taken by an Artist of Florence), the 27th , we will organise
another day of meeting about "poems to buid peace"
And
.finally, in order to establish a reciprocal communication
between us, I have the pleasure to inform you that we have
already our Coordinating Body, which is enclosing the following
members:
the representatives of the Club UNESCO of Arezzo (Assoc.
Lib.) Centro UNESCO of Trieste, (Ass. Lib. incoming) Club
UNESCO of Vinci (Assoc. Lib) Centro UNESCO of Firenze (Assoc.
Lib), the representatives of young people which you know:
Ilaria, Vittorio and Marco from Cuneo ; some Experts in
the field, and myself.
As
soon as you will send us the text of your communications,
we will be happy to publish it on our internet site dedicated
to the subject: which is: associazioni.comune.firenze.it/unesco/htm
Thank
you very much. We look forward to seeing you again,
Yours
sincerely,
Marialuisa
