Dear
Friend, It is my pleasure to inform you that that the project entitled
"reading to build peace" in regard to which you have been
previously informed, has been finalised definitively. Included in
this letter, you will find an outline of all of the necessary details. The
project, as you know, has been organised by the UNESCO Centre in
Florence in collaboration with both the World Federation and the
Italian Federation of UNESCO Clubs, and the support of UNESCO -
Division of Information and Informatics, and the active participation
of young people from countries of the Mediterranean area, members
of UNESCO Clubs and various representatives from UNESCO Associated
Libraries. We would be very pleased and honoured by your participation
in the project. Thus, it is with great pleasure that I invite you
to take part in the first members' meeting, which will be held in
Florence from the 7th to the 12th of this coming March. During these
days we will launch the first series of exchanges between the participating
countries: I am pleased to announce that we will be welcoming representatives
from the UNESCO Clubs and Libraries: we have invited the following
countries: Algeria, Croatia, Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia,
Tunisia, and Turkey. The working language through the course of
these meetings will be English and French. By meeting in Florence
for several days, we hope to define the project in greater detail,
giving a more precise outline of some of the major issues. Through
various workshops and discussions, we shall decide on a specific
methodology to follow in the crucial months to come. We will also
be hosting an exposition of UNESCO publications which will take
place in the National Library, an exposition which we are sure will
prove to be very useful for our work. Thanks to support given by
the Del Bianco Foundation and the Florentine local authorities,
we are pleased to offer you accommodation at one of the finest hotels
in Florence -Hotel Alexander **** ( while the rooms are double occupancy,
single rooms can be arranged at cost). Unfortunately, we are unable
to supply funds for transportation costs; however, at the moment,
we are doing our best to obtain complimentary ticket vouchers from
ALITALIA, and will notify you as soon as matters proceed. The participants
will arrive in Florence on Wednesday March 7th, and depart the following
Monday on March 12th. Since this is considered to be high season,
we would be grateful if you could confirm your participation as
soon as possible, no later than the 15th of February. We sincerely
hope that you will be able to join us, and we look forward to welcoming
you here in Florence. Our best regards, Marialuisa Stringa
